How did we get here?
The catalyst for lockdown came on March 16 with the publication of a report by Neil Ferguson’s Imperial College team. This is the report that essentially sealed the fate of citizens across the globe. Here are a few nuggets you may find interesting:
"The major challenge of suppression is that this type of intensive intervention package will need to be maintained until a vaccine becomes available (potentially 18 months or more) – given that we predict that transmission will quickly rebound if interventions are relaxed.”
"Technology – such as mobile phone apps that track an individual’s interactions with other people in society – might allow such a policy to be more effective and scalable if the associated privacy concerns can be overcome."
"The social and economic effects of the measures which are needed to achieve this policy goal will be profound."
"If intensive NPI packages aimed at suppression are not maintained, our analysis suggests that transmission will rapidly rebound, potentially producing an epidemic comparable in scale to what would have been seen had no interventions been adopted.”

Summary: Lockdowns don't prevent infections or deaths. At best, they delay them. Your government knew that if we didn't do this for the long haul, we would end up in the same place anyway, but with the added bonus of catastrophic damage to the economy and fabric of society.
And yet the whole world, with few exceptions, went for this policy. Why? And what happens if there is never an effective vaccine? Did we do all of this for nothing?
