Population Is Not the Reason We Have a Climate Crisis: A Thread.
we have a climate crisis bc resources are used inefficiently, excessively, and unequally; bc we rely on harmful means of extraction, production, and disposal; bc we exist under a racist capitalist & globalist system focused on exponential profit gains that demands..
citizens be brainwashed & forced into consumerism and overconsumption; bc the health of the people & planet dont matter to those accumulating the most wealth who control those in power, & bc the systemic changes that need to occur to fix the problem are not profitable to them..
blaming the crisis on overpopulation 1) ignores the facts stated above and 2) scapegoats poor people for the problems caused by the affluent, while ignoring their plight & any meaningful societal and systemic changes that could be made to better their opportunities, education...
and economic means- specifically for women- which would solve the "problem of poor people having too many children."
its unquestionable that with increased education, opportunity, and thereby affluence (again, specifically for women), population growth declines.

however, under a capitalist system, the overexploitation and marginalization of the poor is a necessity. without it there is no opportunity for surplus extraction.
thus, perpetuating the narrative that overpopulous poor people are the reason we have global warming only serves..

to support this abusive system. even if most dont realize theyre complicit in this act, those at the top most certainly do.
the point is: population is not the cause of climate change. its the ingrained lifestyles (*cough* the american dream), damaging hegemonic systems...
