I really think that this is my favorite moment of RtS. Not Erwins speech. Just this conversation with Levi. Gonna make a small thread on it.
Erwin has always been bound to learning more and to always do what it takes to learn the truth. He makes the sacrifices necessary to in order to boost his own agenda. But now he's in a tight spot, unable to learn the truth.
Everyone who he has commanded has died and he lives with that. It seems that all of those deaths have caught up with him and now its his turn to die. B
Levi sees this pain in Erwin and tells him that without him, they never would have made it this far. This goes back to the fact that you can't advance without becoming a monster who sacrifices without remorse. This is the true nature of AoTs world. Its cruel but you keep fighting
Levi tells Erwin to die. To sacrifice himself and everyone else for the good of humanity. Erwin knows he'll die here but he doesnt want to. But the Erwin trusts Levi to bring down the Beast Titan. And with that he's calmed and at ease.
Even though Erwin won't know whats in the basement, he's at peace with Levi's decision. So he leads the charge in full force. The Last Stand of Erwin Smith. Thanks for reading
