a cultural vacuum is forming between elite retreat from the public and the increasing nihilism the public is left with (cribbing from @antoniogm interview with martin gurri) https://twitter.com/atroyn/status/1287789048061243395
people won’t live under total cynicism forever (unless they’re slavs)
it’s important to consider who will inherit this vacuum and what they’ll do with it. a cultural vacuum is a cultural frontier
this has happened before, usually in the aftermath of calamity and often in the ruins of poverty and destitution
i’m not sure what’s coming but the nihilist certainly won’t inherit the earth. nihilism is liminal , the need for belief is real
everyone who’s standing around like “wish i was around for great historical changes” needs to understand that they are and they ought to participate
the next train is gonna leave soon folks get on it
just spoke with a few musicians who are leaving the city; for europe, for other places in the united states. a great loss to the city, but maybe a boon for wherever they end up. i just hope they don’t stop making music. i wonder what can be built to make sure they don’t.
