Thread of my "market tuition" and investment mistakes I made as a young, "deep value" investor. Luckily dollar amounts were relatively small. Ordered by most amusing to me. Made plenty of other middling "value" investments that went marginally up or down in these years.
My favorite: Premier Exhibitions ($PRXI). Bought 100 shares at $18.20 on 6/19/13. I really thought they were going to monetize the assets of the Titanic, 12,000+ ft under the ocean, by selling them to a non-profit 😂😂😂. Think this was a popular fintwit/SA play at the time.
Finally sold $PRXI for $0.37 in 2016. 98% loss ($1,783). Hadn't learned to cut my losses.
Next up, Delia's ($DLIA), the teen/preteen girl's retailer. They were bringing in an executive from JCrew I believe to turn it around. Bought 2,100 shares for $1.19 on 10/23/13. Turnarounds at struggling retailers rarely work, this one was no different.
Sold on 2/3/15 for $0.00/share. 100% loss ($2,490). Whitney Tilson was also involved here 😂. As I remember it was hemorrhaging cash.
Next up, JG Wentworth ($JGWE). Basically followed a Kerrisdale Capital report and bought 70 shares at $16.59 on 2/21/14. This was an absolutely terrible call by Kerrisdale and as I remember the stock declined precipitously almost immediately (struggling to find chart).
Sold in March 2016 for $1.14/share (93% loss).

Luckily these were my worst losers and the dollar amounts were not huge, but were somewhat meaningful at the time. Some other losers like $DRYS were in the portfolio as well.
Too bad I didn't invest the above in $AMZN or some other high quality name, but it was probably important for my evolution as an investor. It taught me that investing is hard and to focus on quality.
