Quick note - a shitload of the behaviors I ascribe to #adhd are, as people will point out, common human behaviors.

And... Yeah. We're humans. That's (one of the) point(s).

It's not that we do this thing that no one else does -

It's that our control systems are fucked. https://twitter.com/NomeDaBarbarian/status/1309006481698758659
It's not like only #ADHD or #Autistic kids liked pillow forts, and grew up to love tiny homes.

It is instead the case that we're far more likely to have done so, because we're desperate for a way to limit and control incoming sensory information. https://mobile.twitter.com/NomeDaBarbarian/status/1289423941522472960
The way my brain works is a perfectly valid way for a brain to work, a perfectly normal human brain within the human range.

Redheads are normal, after all, and there's at least five times as many people with brains like mine as there are redheads.
It becomes an issue because folks refuse to recognize that fact. They build shit that works for them, but excludes me. Systems. Institutions. Schools.

The fact that so many of my disorded behaviors are relatable shows that we'd all benefit from understanding & building for them.
It's just like having ramps, or clear sidewalks.

It turns out that building things accessibly, for the myriad ways a person can be, helps everyone.
The way things are built, I'm disabled. We decided that there was only one way to be people, then built the world w/ me on the other side of that fence.

My hope is that one day the things that help us will be as common as glasses, b/c this sucks, y'all. https://mobile.twitter.com/NomeDaBarbarian/status/1276633158541127680
Until then, s'just going to be a bunch of us who get held to standards we would never be able to fill

By Parents,

Teachers,

Friends,

Partners,

And eventually ourselves.

You're not broken. The way you are is fine. The world is just assholes, y'all. https://mobile.twitter.com/NomeDaBarbarian/status/1301179353259106304
(Also, quick reminder that knowing this about yourself should be a moment of empathy with others. We're HARDLY the only people the world isn't built for.)

(This especially goes for you, fellow white cis dudes with ADHD. If it's hard for you, it's even harder for others.)
