The Royal Tigress of Bengal :-
Rani Bhavashankari of Bhurisreshtha/Bhurshut Kingdom (present day Howrah & Hooghly), was a rebel who defeated the Pathan resurgence in Bengal and re-established the Hindu sovereignty in the 16th century. When the Pathans entered the Bhurshut, +
Rani Bhavashankari herself led the Bhurishreshta army and fought the battle against Pathans, led by Osman Khan. On the battleground, seated on her elephant, she fought like Durga with her hand cannon, Rudragnishakti. In no time the Pathans were decimated by the Bhurshut army +
who were trained by Rani herself. After that defeat, Pathans never returned to Bengal. This battle has been famous as 'Battle of Bashuri.' Akbar was the Mughal emperor then. He decided never to attack Bhurshut. +
Because of the valor and courage displayed by her, she was given the title of 'Raibaghini' (Royal Tigress) by Akbar. She was no less than Rani LakshmiBai. Unfortunately, the glorious history of this gallant queen Rani Bhavashankari Roy who was a terror to Pathans and Mughals +
has been removed from the pages of history. However, different forms of Goddess Chandi being worshipped at different places of present Howrah District remind the knowledgeable people the memory of the devout Rani, who was a devotee of Devi Chandi.
