crowley comitting the seven virtues, a thread ✨
this is inspired by this amazing thread by @ALL0NSYAL0NSO https://twitter.com/ALL0NSYAL0NSO/status/1308843705261056002
there’s two versions of the seven virtues, one that compiles the four cardinal virtues with the three theological virtues and one that is the direct contrary to the seven capital sins, and for the purpose of this thread i’ll use the contrary to the seven capital sins
CHASTITY
“refraining from unreasonable sexual conduct or romantic relationships / contrary to lust”

pretty self explanatory, crowley loves aziraphale but aziraphale isn’t ready for a relationship, so crowley abstains from pursuing him
TEMPERANCE
“moderation or voluntary self-restraint / contrary to gluttony”

in every scene where aziraphale’s eating, crowley appears to be just drinking coffee, and we can presume that he has a lot of self-restraint if he looks at aziraphale eat and doesn’t kiss him on the spot
CHARITY
“love of others for they’re made in the image of god / contrary to greed”

it’s clear from the very beginning how much crowley loves humanity and trusts in them, he gave them knowledge, and doesn’t believe the great plan (god’s plan) means they have to die
DILIGENCE
“carefulness and persistent effort or work / contrary to sloth”

let’s be honest: the arrangement is an excuse to hang out with aziraphale, crowley has a passion for work, he loves doing mischief and causing inconveniences, he just doesn’t like being told what to do
PATIENCE
“ability to endure difficult circumstances such as perseverance in the face of delay / contrary to wrath”

do i even have to explain? 6000 years of ‘friendship’?
KINDNESS
“acts of generosity, consideration, or concern for others, without having an expectation of praise or reward / contrary to envy”

crowley is not just ‘nice’ he is KIND, he does good things without ever expecting anything in return (except maybe forgiveness)
HUMILITY
“recognition of self in relation to a deity / contrary to pride”

crowley’s not proud, even when saying bollocks to the great plan, he doesn’t think of himself as above or even on the same level as god or even aziraphale
the seven virtues are there to resist the temptation of the seven sins, so it’s funny that crowley is shown doing the exact opposite of what he’s known for,,, wouldn’t surprise me if it was on purpose, even if it’s not as obvious as ‘aziraphale the sinner’
