Here Sakura for the first time understands the importance of being a ninja, her long symbolized her ideals as a kunoichi should be beautiful and strong. Her cutting her hair hold a lot of meaning that she doesn't care anymore about looks but only wants to protect her friends.

Lady Chiyo was saved by her too,during the battle with Sasori when Sakura almost sacrifices her life for her, Sakura also saved Temari's life in Shikamaru's Hiden novel but the scene was cut in anime and she also opened a mental clinc for children in Suna, also not animated.
