This will be a long term thread for me where I will post big investment themes for the #2020s decade ahead. By and large, I believe that the United States will go through a decade of underperformance vs Developed Europe and Emerging Markets. Energy and Gold will make a resurgence
and we will see a lost decade or longer for US Large Cap Tech. It has become the cornerstone of every US based portfolio and everyone has been funneled via passive funds into the "Fab 5" names that everyone knows and that have led the last decade, starting in November 2008.
Inflation will be higher than everyone anticipates, few are truly positioned for this as it has been a portfolio that has lagged big time over the past decade. $GOLD and energy will be huge beneficiaries of this shift in inflation:
Below is a chart of crude oil. It'll be a huge beneficiary of higher than expected inflation and US government direct intervention in weakening the US Dollar over the next decade. Almost everyone thinks that the spike in 2008 Is the peak crude level. We should see it eclipsed.
The Euro Stoxx 50 resurgence over the next decade will largely be driven by Innovation (European nations make up 7 of the top 10 globally on the Global Innovation Index https://www.globalinnovationindex.org/userfiles/file/reportpdf/GII_2020_KeyFind_English_web.pdf )
