Bout to start a thread dissecting Stipe's record with the opposite bias on it, just to show that obviously if you try to make things sound bad, or not an accomplishment, then it's pretty easy. But it's much easier to state them how they were at the time, like i'm about to.
1.
Coming in with his 2nd fight in the UFC he fights Philip De Fries, who was undefeated at the time, with an 8-0-1 record
2. His 3rd fight in the UFC was against Shane del Rosario, who was also undefeated at the time with an 11-0 record
3.
His 4th fight was the infamous Stefan Struve fight with one of the most egregious eye pokes, seconds before the finishing sequence. Struve was 5-1 in his last 6.
4. His 5th fight was the Roy Nelson bout which he dominated from start to finish, Nelson was 4-1 in his last 5 before this and that 1 loss was from Verdum
5.
His 6th fight was against Gabriel Gonzaga, who was 5-1 in his last 6.
6.
His 7th fight was against Maldonado, who was on a 3 fight win streak.
7.
His 8th fight in the org. was against JDS, which was an extremely close fight that many scored for Stipe. JDS was 11-2 in his last 13 and only lost to Cain, whom he also bested once.
8.
His 9th fight in the org. was against Hunt, who was just in a title eliminator, and had only lost to Verdum and JDS in his last 8 fights.
9. His 10th fight in the org. was against Arlovski, who was on an impressive 6 fight win streak at the time.
10.
His 11th fight in the org. was against the Champion, Verdum, who was on a 6 fight win streak, beating two other people that people were calling the GOAT, Cain and Fedor.
11.
His first title defense was against Overeem, who was on a tear with a 4 fight win streak against all top level competition.
12.
His next title defense was against the always elite JDS, who was only 2 fights off of their last encounter, and was absolutely picked apart and starched, with nothing left to the judges this time.
13.
His next title defense was Ngannou, who had only ever lost once in one of his first bouts. He was 12-1 overall and was absolutely destroying everyone. He looked unbeatable. Stipe was the betting underdog, and he ended up putting a complete clinic on Francis.
14.
Next was his trilogy with DC, who is one of the Goat and had never been beaten at heavyweight. Stipe lost the first one by k.o. that some speculate was because of the several eyepokes to the side he ended up getting hit on. He won the next two proving the first was a fluke.
