Some mornings are more interesting than others... ;)

I was thinking about taking out the recycling, but when I went to the back door (sliding glass door in the kitchen) I saw this lovely Roseate Spoonbill in the canal behind my place. So I grabbed my camera and headed out...
Heading back around to the front, I heard a Pileated Woodpecker calling from behind me. I have never seen a Spoonbill in my canal before, and Pileateds? Maybe in my neighborhood two or three times a year. It flew, but I followed it down to the lake...
I heard a Blue Jay pretending to be a Red-Shouldered Hawk, as I walked by, and thought "That's a weak imitation, buddy. Try harder!" You can just barely see him in this tree...
Apparently the Blue Jay sounded enough like a hawk, because... yeah. It scared the Pileated Woodpecker, which flew down to another tree.
Found the Pileated again, briefly, before it flew away...
The hawk flew off to the dog park. Didn't stick around long.

But on my way back, I saw another hawk - likely its mate.
Hawk #2 was being monitored closely by the Mockingbird Patrol. :)
Closely monitored. ;)
While all this was going on, I was momentarily distracted by a lovely female Anhinga flying over my head... she circled a couple of times.
So I almost missed the Hawk flying away. :)
The Limpkin standing in the opening of the canal into the lake was watching, also.
Excuse me - Limpkins. Plural. Almost missed the other one.
One flew, and the other headed up into the bushes, so I snagged a photo of the Canna Lilies growing at the side of the canal, watched two butterflies passing by (no photos - too fast) and headed home.

Where I finally took out the recycling, and ate breakfast. :)
Not my usual morning, for sure. I generally have to go somewhere to see this much wildlife, so this did not hurt my feelings at all. :)

How was your morning?
