The King Charles Road trial #LowTrafficNeighbourhood starts tomorrow

In case you were wondering, #LTNs aren't a new concept, it's just Kingston hasn't put any new ones in for a while. A short thread from some archive rummaging...

We've been going through the archives and it seems one of the first attempts at restricting through traffic in residential roads in the Borough was at the junction of Lower Ham Road and Lower King's Road. This took place in around 1968!
One of the biggest #LowTrafficNeighbourhoods in the Borough was created around 1978 with the introduction of a 'modal filter' (a block to motor vehicles cutting through the area) on Bonner Hill Road, Norbiton. This is still in place today

We've found at least 22 existing modal filters in the Borough! These make our streets safer, encourage cycling & walking & help reduce air pollution by discouraging short car journeys. We look forward to the results of @RBKingston's new #LTN trials & hope there's more to come
