Those are good questions.

But there aren't any good answers.

I mean, how do you KNOW I'm more reliable? Not an opinion, or a hunch, or a guess. But how do you KNOW?

You don't. You can't.

Hell, for all you know, I could be working for the Kremlin.

Profit driven journalism isn't perfect, obviously. And it's currently struggling to adapt to the Information Age where EVERYBODY has become an information source.

But, journalism -- depending on the organization -- does have editorial standards.

Can media be better? Sure? Obviously.

But this idea that if they just published "fact" and "truth" and somehow the consumer would arrive at the correct worldview as a result is utterly hilarious to me.

I was an Intelligence Officer. You have NO idea how many times I did just that. Present only fact and the truth to the best of my abilities, only to watch consumers spin that into any sort of bullshit. See Iraq et al.

The truth of the matter is that you don't WANT just "fact" and "truth."

You WANT opinion. You WANT analysis. You WANT interpretation.

And a trained journalist is the person to provide view.

Again, can they do better? Sure.

But mostly we're just mad that the "media" doesn't just tell us only what we think is important in a manner that we want to hear.
