Some thoughts on Nomadland. First, it is astonishing. I've seen all of Chloe Zhao's movies and her take on the people who are living on the margins, barely getting by is like no other I've seen. She centers a woman and a group of people some who have chosen a life off the grid,
some who have been forced there and digs into their humanity, their grit, their community and camaraderie that was just amazing. She again works with mostly non-actors and just brings people into focus that we don't read about in the papers or see in the movies. So, so good.
And Frances McDormand is utterly believable as a woman who lost everything and finds a sense of peace and freedom in the nomad life. It is also a fascinating look at aging and how older women just disappear.
