Taking this meme more seriously and more literally than it was intended, I will offer my best assessment of who these characters actually would have been listening to at the time of the film's release, in February 1985. But first, some general observations. 1/9
Bender would not listen to any of those punk/New Wave bands except maybe the Ramones. DEFINITELY not Joy Division or the Violent Femmes.
Van Halen is right for Andy. 1985 is too early for U2 or Bon Jovi. Journey is a millennial's retcon. *No one* liked Journey in 1985.

The goth instinct is right for Allison, but she'd be into darker stuff than this. The B-52s & REM are too college rock. The Pixies didn't exist yet.
They seem to think Claire's taste is "music from Molly Ringwald movies." But nah, Claire's more basic than that.
