Conor Skehan's article in the Sunday Independent tries to conflate cycling with the middle class and car ownership with the working class.

The fact is that people of all backgrounds travel by sustainable means.
He also points out that more men cycle than women.

Research from Dublin Cycling Campaign shows that the reason for this is in part due to lack of safe infrastructure as well as harassment from other road users.
He also points to car based travel as being beneficial to city business. Research from Transport for London shows the walking and cycling having a much more beneficial impact on footfall. (Evidence of this in Dublin is seen in the Grafton Street Area pedestrianisation weekends)
The evidence is clear.
Walking and Cycling are better ways to arrange our cities.
People from all backgrounds use sustainable methods.
Women and girls want safe infrastructure to cycle.

Can we please stop having the same debate over and over again.
And let's start building infrastructure that isn't just a box ticking exercise but is truly accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
