This segment started so positively discussing dark sky reserves and amateur astrophotographers being able to contribute to the world of astronomy & scientific discovery, then spiraled into (Starlink) satellites are bad. (thread 1/4) https://twitter.com/CBSSunday/status/1305141674100785152
I watched with wonder & amazement and then became frustrated because there are so many sides to this argument and the only side that gets widespread attention is that satellites are ruining the night sky. (2/4)
When discussing this topic it cannot simply be said that satellites are bad. Yes, they contribute to night sky "pollution." 100%.
But satellites have also contributed to natural disaster awareness & advanced preparation, GPS, security and defense, & communications. (3/4)
Why, when discussing this topic, is it so easy for people to blanket statement say satellites are bad. Why can't we instead say "This is a problem. But, we are slowly collaborating on ways to eventually overcome it."

One should not be discussed without the other. (4/4)
As an aside to this, anyone concerned about the night sky pollution that humans have created on OTHER PLANETS? Multiple planets in our solar system have orbiting debris placed there by humans on Earth.
I mean - if we're going to discuss it, let's discuss it in detail & at length.
