St Boniface, Bunbury, had a role in the Civil War. Most Cheshire people didn’t want war or align with Royalists or Parliamentarians. A 3rd way was proposed: neutrality. In Dec 1642 meetings at the Church led to the Bunbury Agreement - rejected by Parliament #NantwichDigitalMuseum
The Bunbury Agreement decreed:
All fighting in Cheshire to end
All prisoners to be released
Property taken during the conflict returned to the owner
All losses to be compensated by a levy on both sides
