I was taught human physiology by Prof Tim Noakes and the banting diet came as no surprise.

He is a great lecturer of human physiology and had a way of making us understand the topic quite easily.

The teaching also was against fasting as a form of weight loss.
When I was frustrated with the slow pace of my weight loss after my last child (2017) a fellow runner suggested intermittent fasting.

It went against my teaching and I was reluctant to try it.

I decided what the heck- let me do it. I have nothing to lose.
I tried it and I went in hard on exercise at same time moved it from four times a week to six times a week included resistance training.

This was at start of lockdown- so the cardio was rope skipping. I went hard on training targeting 80%heart rate.
I did intermittent fasting but the trick is that when you break the fast- you also watch calories and not over eat.

I lost more than 7kg very fast.

The physiology: the stomach shrinks to a certain extent when you reduce volumes of food intake. It’s hard at first but gets easier
When I was not becoming hungry at all- I got worried. I consulted a dietician and @Luki_bbz took it from there.

I have continued to lose weight now with her overseeing it and as you have seen- I am dedicated to exercise.
She has taught me about portion control and I am coping quite well with the portions.

In fact my whole family is on it and they are very happy.

We stop eating when satisfied not when full. To avoid waste- we dish out just enough.
It has been very helpful and has helped us all to manage weight.

Lastly we did blood assessment and we learnt that I have insufficient vitD. Surprise surprise- I should have been watching it because it is common amongst surgeons! We spend most time indoors- in theatre.
So I am making progress- the aim is to get me to 69kg. We have just less than 10k to go.

Also losing the weight has allowed me to do more speed training and I am getting faster on the road.
Just had my breakfast- a slice of toasted bread with one scrambled egg and a cup of black coffee with no sugar. I don’t add sugar to any of my hot beverages.

And I don’t feel hungry. When I was bigger I did not shop- so now I am back to my old clothes!💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
