Yesterday in a store, within a minute or two of chatting to my partner and I, the attendant just flippantly injected into small talk a really disparaging comment about people from public schools. Like it was as uncontroversial as saying murder is bad.

She made the assumption, in customer service small talk that it was not only appropriate but completely safe and uncontroversial to say something like "oh don't worry I'm not one of those public school people!" *scoff*.
She was like mid to late 20s. Not a teenager.

I extremely pointedly told her we were both not only from public schools but small country town public schools and said "so we're right here! The public school people can hear you!" 
Like... even if I wasn't from public school why on Earth would you assume that opinion is OK?

The store was expensive and the suburb it is in is a rich people one.
She didn't bank on any working class kids from public school having had enough upward social mobility to step through the door undetected I guess.
