LRT someday let me write a book about why no one should look at 3H with the hope of finding clear-cut protagonists or villains, especially when the game goes out of its way to tell you so.

This isn't to say that everything is gray and that there is no right or wrong. It's just-
sometimes, political conflict and social change can't be reduced to individual morality and that "good vs bad" is a reductive way to frame long-building historical tensions.
If I seem disinterested in 3H, it's because no one - and I mean NO ONE - seems to engage with this game on those terms.
Okay you know what? Let me go off for a bit. One thing no one ever seems to bring up: the issue of primogeniture in Dimitri's arc. No one ever questions the role of Lambert replacing Rufus in the line of succession as ONE very important influence for why Dimitri clings to crests.
People never look past the surface of his words (I believe we need crests *and some platitude about strength*) w/o diagnosing the social factors that would make him operate under this assumption. Another thing no one talks about? Alliance lords literally killing merchants
to financially chokehold other lords in stronger positions. What can the emergence of mercantile capitalism do to threaten existing feudal ties? Edelgard's proposal for proto-capitalism isn't entirely out of the ether, bc it's at work already in the alliance.
