Lots of optimism - yet no certainty - for B10 football this fall, per multiple league sources. Different from August. While situation is fluid and no one can guarantee what/when presidents will do after being presented health/logistics information, the 2020 season has a chance.
Even if presidents vote yes, still much to decide. Sources didn’t expect games before Oct. 17, at best. Season could be as short as six divisional games and Title Game. Or could include 1-2 crossovers and still finish by Dec. 19. Or could start Thanksgiving and run into January.
Logistics are considerable and ever changing. Wisconsin football is currently on a two week “pause.” All Michigan St students are being urged to self-quarantine by local health officials. Etc. Can you play on campus in December? Do you need to move to domes?
Why might presidents still say no? If rapid testing is available, how can you give it to football players but not paying students? Outbreaks in college towns. Title IX. Other leagues cancelling games, missing players. Do you restart and then have to shut down?
Other sources may say other things to other reporters. Zero guarantees, but there is way, way more momentum (perceived or real) for playing this fall compared to a month ago. Going to be a fascinating few days for the league.
