I’ll say it again: Mode share is not a static, immutable number. When a city builds protected, convenient bike routes, it’s not just “catering to” the 5% of people who are already biking; The idea is to make biking a viable option for a larger share of people.
And time and again, in all kinds of cities, evidence bears this out. High-quality, connected bike infrastructure begets more bike trips.
Anddd if more people bike then even people for whom it isn’t an option get cleaner air, less congestion and quieter, safer streets. So what I’m saying is that the “argument” that bike infrastructure only benefits a small number of people is officially cancelled.
