This song was always a UKG song to me. Hearing Darkchild saying he made Say My Name as a UKG after raving with the Spice Girls, UKG obviously impacted him at some point but I cant tell if this was before or after. https://twitter.com/hyperfrank/status/1281585527419023360
Brandy's Angel In Disguise sounded like UKG, plus a full UKG bit on All In Me on Full Moon album too. Then there was the wave of half time>double time r&b like Jordan Knight + KP and Envyi - Swing My Way. That's why Craig David Born To Do It slotted in so effortlessly to US imo
BTDI blends r&b, UKG, pop and rock. Top storytelling, mesmerising melodies & the right looking man for the job. Captured the time perfectly. But that was the first and only time it was possible. Black UK music went hard + underground. When it softened with UK Funky, r&b was dead
The "sweet boy" is dead too. I'll have so much respect for whichever singer builds a credible underground audience then makes it over the other side with credibility in tact today. It's like they'd have to buss on drill stylings, then crossover on afro-swing stuff. Not impossible
Yxng Bane coulda done something I think. Obviously he isnt a singer singer but he's probably the closest to matching up. But something happened a long the way. Can't put my finger on it
Can't believe I forgot to mention this one. I always thought it was a UKG remix. Big up Soulshock and Karlin. They were the Stargate before Stargate https://twitter.com/Gezza_O/status/1305057399766691840
