/ A thread. A mood b/c it’s #truthtellingSaturday. Tea is warm. Thus far in TV I’ve survived & thrived despite the following: 1. Star of show throwing my script across the soundstage. I refused to pick it up and told showrunner I wasn’t his slave 2. actor loudly berating me
/ over the script in front of 200+ crew members... 3. White lady producer openly calling me and my pitches “stupid” in the writers room 4. telling same producer (with the door open of course) after one too many “stupids” that I’m not the one 5. White producer threatening career
/ 6. Black lady producer who called me too ghetto to succeed in TV 7. working behind countless white folks w/ less experience (objective and true) and talent (subjective but still true - fight me). 8. Convincing parent of kid actor not to sue the production for something silly..
/ actor who wouldn’t leave trailer until I prayed w/ him (sincerely) 10. Had to go to church with upset owner of crucial location to secure location 11. Didn’t kill writer whose script I had to page 1 rewrite from my mother’s death bed when said writer didn’t offer condolences
/ I could go on. And maybe I will one day. But my point is: this TV stuff ain’t for punks. So if you meet a kind, successful TV producer, it isn’t b/c they’re weak. It’s b/c they’re strong enough to show grace.
