Opinion: Thiem and Medvedev are on a level above the rest of the Big Three chase pack (thread). Zverev, though he’s in the final and Medvedev isn’t, hasn’t played with as convincing a level as Medvedev.
Now for a blunt take. It’s clear that Tsitsipas is a level down from all three of the others right now. Just look at their last 3-4 results in majors and compare. It’s not close.
On Thiem: I seriously think he could turn into an all-time great if his prime lasts. The level he produced against Medvedev was reminiscent of the Big Three. If his decline starts as late as when he hits 30, he could win four majors in my opinion.
I think Medvedev’s time will come. His last two US Opens have been very impressive, and he’s significantly younger than Thiem. Thiem’s emphatically shown that he’s superior on hard courts for the moment, but Medvedev could win multiple US Opens.
Zverev: his last two performances have been strange to say the least, but he made the semis in Melbourne and he’s in the final in New York. Can’t argue with the results. He will win a major before the end of 2022.
Tsitsipas has some work to do. Everything about him screams future #1, and he had a spectacular WTF, but he’s been so disappointing in the majors. Until he makes another run like the AO 2019 run, I won’t be sold on him.
