Greece 🇬🇷 reports 302 new cases in the last 24 hours.

An increase from yesterday, where 287 cases were reported.

Ideally, we’d like to see cases level-off to mitigate UK 🇬🇧 quarantine measures as much as possible.

Latest statistics on the islands too!

My thread 👇
We now know that the UK government 🇬🇧 is taking a regional approach to quarantine measures for some nations.

In Monday’s announcement in parliament, Shapps announced the following islands were to be added to England’s quarantine list, effective from 4:00am last Wednesday 👇

As of this evening, Greece’s 🇬🇷 7-day cumulative case rate per 100,000 people is 15.6.

This is up from yesterday, where this figure was 14.5.

No immediate concerns, but ideally, we do need to see cases level-off.

*Dodecanese islands & Cyclades islands now reported individually…

Important to realise the UK government 🇬🇧 no longer solely considers the 7-day cumulative case rate per 100,000 people as a means of justifying whether a nation/region should be added to the quarantine list.

/6
As mentioned in previous threads, Crete continues to have a low 7-day case rate per 100,000 people, yet remains on the quarantine list.

/7
I suspect the UK government 🇬🇧 (and devolved governments) are concerned about “party islands”, and how some travellers from Crete returned and tested positive whilst back in the UK.

Of course, this is a small minority of people, but sadly the quarantine effects everyone!

/8
I wouldn’t be too concerned yet about the increase in new cases overall.

Of course, we’d like to see cases level-off.

Here’s an ideal scenario...

/9
From tomorrow until Thursday, we ideally want to see no more than 270 new cases per day.

That way, the 7-day case rate per 100,000 people will be no higher than 18.1.

/10
This is still fairly high, but below the “threshold” of 20.

And I am sceptical about this threshold.

Denmark 🇩🇰 wasn’t removed from the quarantine list despite having a 7-day case rate per 100,000 people of 26.7 by Thursday evening.

/11
So there could be some leeway as a result of rising UK 🇬🇧 cases.

/12
Speaking of rising UK 🇬🇧 cases, I still wouldn’t be concerned about Greece 🇬🇷 imposing measures on British travellers.

My next tweet contains the list of countries current subject to showing a negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior to arrival in Greece 🇬🇷.

/13
Countries where a negative COVID-19 PCR test result is required upon entry to Greece 🇬🇷

🇧🇬 Bulgaria
🇷🇴 Romania
🇦🇪 U.A.E
🇲🇹 Malta
🇸🇪 Sweden
🇧🇪 Belgium
🇪🇸 Spain
🇦🇱 Albania
🇲🇰 North Macedonia

The Netherlands 🇳🇱 was removed from this list on Monday!

/14
France 🇫🇷 is not on the list and continues to see far more cases than the UK 🇬🇧!

So no concerns for now.

/15
As usual, more tweets to come as the situation develops!

Thanks! 🇬🇷🇬🇧
