Prior to the announcement that both their albums would be dropping on the same day, Kanye and 50 were on good terms. Kanye said in an interview that he chose “Can’t tell Me Nothing” as a single after 50 cent called it his favorite song.

Kanye was signed to Def Jam and Curtis was signed to Interscope. Both labels are owned by major music label, Universal Music Group. Fans thought it was odd for a label to pin two of their artists against each other but the risk paid off.

As 50 Cent’s relevancy in hip-hop started to fade away, Kanye kept innovating the genre and adding quality projects to his catalogue. Curtis pursued other business ventures such as producing the TV Show “Power”. Both legends have left their mark.
