Dear Black women,

Don't you know you're social and cultural innovators? That you rise and shine no matter the obstacles in your path? You are the godmothers of rock n' roll, right down to the moves. Your skin is luminous and people envy the fact that you're ageless beauty and
grace. You start trends and shape language by just being. You're shamelessly copied by everyone, even when they don't realize it. You inspire, you do great things and always have. You lead. And you do ALL of this, sometimes broken inside, scared, alone and insecure. You create
joy. So stop thinking you're second best, that you're ugly and unworthy because what my wise Grandma Dorothy (miss you) always told me "God don't make no junk." You deserve ALL the things. You deserve rest, to bask in beauty, to be loved, to have your needs met. You deserve
flowers, a cuppa tea, a good book, cute shoes, that fabulous vintage Pucci print dress that will swathe you in happy. Don't ask, GET. Get your healing in whatever form it takes. Love yourselves in a world that is terrified when you do. Walk proudly knowing the women who came
before you. Redefine "strength" not as holding others up or fighting their battles but saying "no, not today" and letting others handle the day to day. Love your daughters as yourselves, not as competition. Be your own beautiful. Be kind to yourself whatever journey you're on.
