What really pisses me off is that in 2020 educators are still more focused on memorization and regurgitation than demonstrating competence.

On the other hand it's a great time for everyone to realize how bad most profs are at teaching. https://twitter.com/LegendAriee16/status/1304098649186742273
Students who know how to research and find the information they need and then correctly apply it in a "quiz"?

That would make me happy. I like when people know how to use available resources.
Using available resources correctly is a much more important thing to teach than memorization of facts.

Figuring out which available resources are going to be most helpful when there's a lot of conflicting information? Important skill to teach.
Facts change.

Understanding that it's important to do your research? Doesn't.
Also yes okay I'm probably somewhere between the spirit of a fact-checker and a librarian but still.

I mean, the original prof's (inaccessible) all-caps rant is ableist. Penalizing eye movement is ableist.

But also just in general, I have ADHD and my "working" memory is for shit. So I kind of feel like pedagogy that relies on students memorizing stuff is ableist at base.

I mean this iteration of remote education is really getting a lot of so-called educators to show their whole asses though.

Like wow I can see your oppressive attitudes in between your butt cheeks.
Anyway, we can all hope school systems are going to learn from this and figure out better remote teaching methods going forward.

I doubt they will but we can hope.
