A thread -- on nurturing your creative self in the midst of struggles. . . .1/?
The past few weeks have been a struggle. For the summer I lived in this sweet bubble -- getting lots done at home, spending lots of time in nature and in my personal spaces, writing a lot, and . . .
2/? enjoying lots of support from the writing community and others. Then, the stress of going back to school with all of the uncertainty. . . Then, the normal+added struggles of getting back into that daily routine. . .less quiet time, less creative time. . . .Then, the fatigue.
3/? Then, rejections. Then, Imposter syndrome. Then, less interaction with the writing community . . . .It would be so easy to give up, wouldn't it? So, I crushed my weekly goals early in the week, thanks to Labor Day holiday, except for training, but I still felt. . .
like an imposter. I started a training earlier in the week which I finished today, and it was just right, you know? We had a phrase at a former church -- "Jehovah Sneaky" -- when God sneaks in and gives you just what you need -- that you didn't even realize. . . This was 4/?
Jehovah Sneaky at work. The training was through Serious Writers -- Kindle Your Creative Spark. Honestly, it was the only one I thought I could stomach this week. I've been working so incredibly hard and my brain is fighting hard against me. . . surely some of you know this 5/?
feeling? I almost felt guilty for this module because it wasn't so much about craft and moving forward . . . and then came module 6. . . and I realized it was just what I needed to be reminded of. We need 5 positives for every negative to maintain balance. . . .When I 6/?
thought about all the negative -- at school/work, rejections from writing, fatigue, negative self-talk, doubts, fears, my sick mom. . . I was like, well, no wonder. I KNOW these things, but don't we need to be reminded sometimes? Maybe you're feeling it too. Maybe 7/?
all of the negative has made you doubt your creativity? Your creative place in the world? Here were some of Tina's tips:
Prayer and meditation
Fellowship with inspiring, creative people
Read inspirational and funny things daily
Cultivate an inspiring work setting
8/?
Participate in retreats, conferences
Get into some awe-inspiring experiences -- nature, art gallery, botanical gardens, etc.
She gave "permission" and research for the importance of play and relaxation, along with the reminders of how much positive we need to counteract 9/?
the negative. So, aside from those lessons, a reminder and a thank-you for this amazing #kidlit #writingcommunity for all the encouragement and positivity we provide for each other. It's so important. We were born to be creative. Let's live out our purpose 10/?
and help others do the same. Let's lean into our groups for support when doubt demons assuage. Let's be creative together. Thanks to my Twitter friends, #PBParty and #PBChat for all the encouragement. Never doubt that your positivity will help to balance the scales! 11/11 :-)
