Let me explain why.

Does it suck to take a pay cut regardless of situation? Absolutely!

But in this case it's totally fair.

Wages are paid in Silicon valley that are (somewhat) in line with the cost of living and competition of hiring.

If you chose to move from Palo Alto to
Say Nephi Utah and you wanted to keep you're $150k salary, which in Utah is probably $105k, then you'd be making *more* money than you were making in Palo Alto.

So the company letting you work remote from wherever is giving you a huge raise really.
Now clearly there is a limit there, but every single company pays different wages based in location.

The company I just left usually paid a California employee about 120% of what that wage was in Utah.

If we hired someone in kansas is was roughly 90% of what Utah's wage was
Why? Because if cost of living in those areas.

It's not an exact science, but you better believe I'd take a 5% pay cut to go live and work in area that was 15% cheaper for housing!
