The GOP has always leaned hard into this culture war stuff b/c they are incapable of governing (and their actual agenda is incredibly unpopular), but I don't think their desperate 'look over there' pivot has ever been more stark. https://twitter.com/SenTedCruz/status/1304754228477472768
There's a pandemic (that the president is on tape saying he purposely mismanaged) w 100,000s dead, multiple scandals a day of pppl resigning or WBing over govt wrongdoing, wildfires engulfing several states, etc... & Tom Cotton/Ted Cruz are posting about a movie on Netflix.
Honestly, the 1st I heard of this 'scandal' was yesterday when Tulsi posted about it. I thought it might be a niche thing, but no, entire GOP seems to be obsessively focused on this, as they ignore the news of the day. Its just so pathetically transparent. https://twitter.com/BreitbartNews/status/1304807420074627074
Just doing a quick search, literally every single conservative news outlet/commentator, the Trump campaign, GOP politicians (& Tulsi), etc. It's just nuts. There is literally too much important news/scandal to keep up with & *this* is what they're spending all their energy on.
And as everyone in the replies is pointing out, the outrage is clearly a wink & a nod to the Qanon people that now make up a large part of their base, which is only going to grow. It's frightening, but somehow the GOP is going to get *even more* insane.
