I would like to chime in once again on the discussion regarding Cosmic Horror brought up by @FormaldehydeFce

As I study the Grotesque as a concept, the mind drifts into thinking about "Lovecraft". Hell, a classmate brought him up in class last week, but without example.
I pondered as to why the flippant mention of HP was used without any clear example provided. Did he not know HP's work enough to give an example? OR, as @FormaldehydeFce expertly pointed out, is the man used lazily to convey something he doesn't actually achieve in his writing?
We have been tasked with uploading images and clips to use as examples for discussion in class. Many of the ones I have come up with (especially in regards to the grotesque overlapping with the sublime) have been classified as "Lovecraftian" in marketing. Yet....
I can't really think of any clear creations by HP (beyond Cthulhu...a creation more clearly defined by other authors tbh) that fit the bill. Frankly. he's a poor writer who did little to describe much of anything well. He stays on the fringe, but never in a way that really evokes
Yet, if I were say that COSMIC HORROR is a landscape full of grotesque and sublime (and, as such grotesquely sublime) creations, it doesn't take me long to dish out examples:
Bloodborne's beasts and cosmic entities, The Thing's fusion of different biological masses, The Fly, Alien (all of the creatures), sandworms (all versions, really), Event Horizon's ship, and so on.
So, remember to consider this...is what you're talking about actually Lovecraftian? Is it vague to the point of laziness? Is it meant to evoke the fears of racial difference in an allegorical way? Is it specifically LOVECRAFT, or is Cosmic Horror?
Imagine referring to the Gothic as "Poe-esque" as if it is a "Coke" or a "Q-tip". Give Cosmic Horror the same treatment.

Not just because it deserves it. It also feels good to say and sounds cooler. đŸ€˜
