This thread, past this intro, is from a conservative friend. Yes, I have a few left! I thought it important to share because of all the craziness feeding the Qhysteria. (1) So, I watched CUTIES. I went into it fearful because of all the criticism. However, I found that it is ...
(2)exactly what the director says it’s supposed to be. A commentary of how society is over-sexualizing our kids. (WAP anyone???) Girls see ads, music videos, and actresses and try to emulate those people. Boys see those same popular people and grow to expect girls to be like that
(3)Next, I’m disappointed in the media gurus who are speaking out about this film but readily admit they won’t watch it because it is so reprehensible. A lot of them are making assumptions from the promotional poster alone. In libraries one of the first questions on a Request
(4) for Reconsideration of Materials form is, “Have your read or viewed the entire item?” You can’t make an educated argument if you haven’t viewed it.
Also, the first half of the movie had a chubby girl in the movie. She danced with the group and ran in the pack.
(5) However, midway through there is an incident that gets her ostracized from the others. Hmmmm. She’s sure not seen on the posters is she? And, it’s convenient that the chubby one is the one to get kicked out before the big dance competition. Why don’t we hear anything
(6)about only skinny girls being represented? That happens in real life, too. What does that tell the girls in society?
Finally, the dance outfit on the promotional poster looks just like some of the things I see girls wearing in dance, cheerleading, and Pom competitions.
(7) Why don’t people get up in arms about those REAL LIFE sexual dance moves and revealing costumes?
