These protests are getting larger. This has the potential to be a significant problem. https://twitter.com/AineMcMahon/status/1304788952856039424
Aside from the public health risk these large gatherings pose, if only 10 to 20% of the population to buy into Anti Vaccine & Anti Science conspiracy theories, & refuse the vaccine, we are unlikely to achieve herd immunity. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/29/fauci-us-unlikely-achieve-herd-immunity-coronavirus-even-with-vaccine
And these conspiracy theories aren't isolated to the far right. Many people are getting sucked into anti vaccine and other fringe conspiracy theories like Qanon, via the wellness, alternative medicine, and infulencer communities. https://twitter.com/_MAArgentino/status/1300974361491406849?s=20
At this point we all know a relative or neighbour or facebook friend who, over the past few months, has shared some bizarre covid related conspiracy on WhatsApp, or on Facebook. And it’s *incredibly* hard to try & pull people out of this mindset once they’ve been sucked in it. https://twitter.com/bkjabour/status/1299932520511713281
2021 *could* be the year we get a vaccine, & if just a small percentage of the population refuse it, we will face a new, entirely man made, public health crisis. One created by ignorance & misinformation, & transmitted on Social Media.
Yeah and all this is *aside* from the fact that these “anti mask” protests are a thinly veiled excuse for a violent far right rally. Rallies that are frequently erupting into violence. https://twitter.com/thebeaconirl/status/1304791264819380226
Much love to @IzzyKamikaze who was at the receiving end of a vicious assault by these violent far right thugs earlier this afternoon.

These “demonstrations” clearly pose both a danger to public health *and* public order. The Gardaí need to act. https://twitter.com/nursepollyrgn/status/1304797822659817472
