As an "authentic" European, I feel confused (and miffed) when people say European-based fantasy is overdone. Europe is big. Scandinavia is not the same as Russia or Turkey. Or maybe I should say: Britain does not equal Europe, in fantasy or otherwiseđŸ˜€
Is Danish-inspired fantasy overdone? Is Fareose fantasy overdone? Is Icelandic fantasy overdone? Is Catalan fantasy overdone? Is Serbian fantasy overdone? Just... *sigh*
Lastly, let me address "Western fantasy" as the sister of "European fantasy". What is western fantasy? What is this mythical west we speak of? Where are the physical boundaries? The cultural boundaries, for that matter?

Again.... *sigh*
I mean, I get it, okay? But I also... don't get it. That's all. Rant over. Sorry, guys.
Oh, and please let me amend Britain to England. I myself was guilty of generalizing there. Sorry, guys ❀
Another important point to take away from this discussion: there are BIPOC here too, so when you say you don't want European fantasy, but you encourage BIPOC fantasy? Sometimes that's the same.
