@BrevardCo_FL has issued a press release on the algae situation in the lagoon, titled "Lagoon Faces Weather Conditions That Could Lead to Potential Fish Kills" /1 https://www.brevardfl.gov/communications/viewrelease?id=4386
I encourage you to read the release, linked in the previous tweet & pictured below. There is a real potential for crisis. Though the Save Our Lagoon Project plan is doing great work to restore the lagoon, they can only do so much if we do not take actions at home to help. /2
"Everyone can help restore the Indian River Lagoon by reducing pollution inputs, such as fertilizer, grass clippings, excess irrigation (especially with reclaimed water) car wash water, failing septic tanks and leaky sewer pipes." ... and there are many more ways you can help. /3
I encourage you to check out https://lagoonloyal.com
Here you can learn about many ways you can protect the lagoon at home. By taking simple actions, you can make a big difference. Plus, if you document those actions, you can actually received discounts for local businesses. /4
Our lagoon is currently pea-soup green, and it is obviously distressed; but please remember that it still needs our help when it is clear and beautiful. Our lagoon provides so much to us...the least we can do is take actions at home to protect it. /End
