In 2012 Presidential Elections, Shiv Sena supported Pranab Mukherjee against BJP supported P. A. Sangama.

Mukherjee had visited Balasaheb at him home about which
the late Sena patriarch said it was but natural for the "Maratha tiger to support the Royal Bengal tiger."
