When is Covid, Covid?  - CEBM

Another cracking piece of sleuthing by Prof Heneghan & co. But read this:
The Italian government defines a Probable Case as a suspected case in whom results of test for SARS-CoV-2 is unclear or inconclusive on the basis... https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/when-is-covid-covid/
... of specific protocols for Real Time PCR of SARS-CoV-2 in the designated regional reference laboratories or is positive to a pan-coronavirus test.

If I’m understanding this, given a “suspected case” is someone with non-specific symptoms OR someone in a track/trace program.
That “suspected” becomes “probable” if PCR positive in a PAN-CORONAVIRUS test. 4 CoVs (HKU1, OC43, NL63, 229E) cause 30% of common colds. A pan-CoV PCR test will light up if the individual has a cold from 1 of these viruses.
Retweet if this is nuts.
Reply if I’m wrong.
Note, I am NOT saying that U.K. is using a pan-coronavirus primer set in any PCR tests. I assume. Clearly, however, such tests exist. Makes you think, anyway.
