9/11 was a tragedy but the greater tragedy was how brown people were persecuted for their appearance and religious beliefs.
This is a picture of my uncle who was killed in America for wearing a turban, after this all my family that visited America would cut their hair. This is against our religious beliefs but my family did this so they could feel safer in America.
Let’s never forget that brown people were victims of hate crimes because largely due to American media. And yet some of my family still believes America is the greatest place in earth especially for immigrants.
A tragedy should bring people together not segregate based on skin colour, religious beliefs or where you come from. I remember living in America being called a paki and osama- I was 8 years old.
My mother was harassed on the streets of Cambridge, Massachusetts, when she wasn’t with my father. That is what is meant to be a brown person post 9/11.
Don’t even get me started on India/Pakistan relations and how fucked they have been through our history. Technically speaking I am a Pakistani person as my family’s land was in modern day Pakistan.
