There’s so much to be genuinely angry & outraged about in the world, but there are also times when the option to default to kindness to one-another in the absence of other information can be a conscious decision. I’m no expert but I think that’s how we start building communities.
Some more context (from the phone call with the delivery guy): he asked my neighbour “Are you Harry?” & my neighbour said “Yes” (which he might be! Or maybe he’s Gary or Barry or Larry - it can be hard to make out what people are saying when everyone’s wearing a mask)...
... Then the delivery guy said “Is it your birthday?” and my neighbour said “No, but it is my last day at work”...
... After I finished talking to the delivery guy I confirmed on the invoice that he’d delivered it to the address he had - but it was the wrong address, and I just hadn’t noticed before...
... So in the absence of any other info I’m choosing to believe that my neighbour thought a friend or work colleague was giving him a surprise treat on his last day.
UPDATE! My (lovely!) neighbour just came over. Turns out his last name is Harrison & people call him Harry. Yesterday was his last day after 13 years in his job & he got many gifts so assumed the meal was another. We had a good laugh & he said he’ll buy me a replacement meal!

He even tried to call the restaurant to figure out what was happening but they didn’t pick up! (Not a criticism, it’s a shitty shitty year for restaurants my god.) Neighbour is a good guy!
Oh also he had his young child with him when he came over and when he explained that yesterday was his last day after 13 years I said “Oh shit!” so, uh, sorry for swearing in front of your kid neighbour

ALSO the meal was from @TheMoatMelb & on the phone they said they’d replace it which is TOTALLY not their responsibility (they delivered to the right wrong address!) & my parents said they’d order a replacement & now neighbour’s said he will so guys I’ll call you & sort it out

(Neighbour said the food was delicious which if you’ve ever eaten at @TheMoatMelb you’ll know is true. Support your local restaurants everyone!)
