Here's the first thread on the history of ProPed in the west. I'll keep going tomorrow with US if ya'll are interested enough. For now, we start in the UK with the Pedophile Information Exchange (PIE). Really gross how tied into the government they were.
Ian Dunn and Michael Hanson set up PIE as a special interest within the Scottish Minorities Group (now Outright Scotland). The goal, they stated, was “alleviate suffering of many adults and children” by abolishing the age of consent.
Shortly after its creation the organization moved to London where it received more popular support. PIE began publishing magazines and spreading its message via word of mouth.
The size of the network PIE built is unknown. Although, it must have been impressive, as one of its magazine articles asked, "If all pedophiles in community schools or private schools were to strike, how many would be forced to close, or at least alter their regimes?"
After many of its members were exposed by the Sunday People newspaper PIE changed tactics. No longer would they operate in the dark, slowly building infrastructure. Instead they wanted as much attention as possible.
In the words of chairman Keith Hose “We felt that the only way to get more paedophiles joining PIE... was to seek out and try to get all kinds of publications to print our organization's name and address and to make paedophilia a real public issue."
In 2014 it was revealed that the Home Office gave three grants to PIE totaling ÂŁ70,000. Not much, but even a single ÂŁ is too many considering how open these guys were about their intentions. Begs the question, who in the Home Office was willing to give them money?
This is all compelling. However, the real story is in PIE’s ties to the NCCL, known now as Liberty (the Brit equivalent of the ACLU).
The NCCL fought side-by-side with PIE on the child pornography issue. claiming that it should not be illegal to produce child porn unless it can be proven that the child suffered harm in the process. Harriet Harman (former deputy leader of the Labour Party) wrote that document
Alongside Herman, the NCCL passed a motion supporting PIE. Saying that “attacks” on pedos were harassment and should end.
Just before PIE went belly up a spokesperson for Herman said that PIE was not tied to the NCCL while Herman was there. The daily Telegraph proved this false.

In 2013 and 2014 many high ranking Labour party members were linked to PIE through the NCCL. Harriet Harman’s husband, MP Jack Dromey was a member of NCCL’s executive committee at the time of PIE’s affiliation.
As well, Patricia Hewitt, former Secretary of Health, was the general secretary of the NCCL while PIE was cuddling up to the organization. Hewitt would later apologize for her part in issue.
On 19 July 2015, 60 Minutes broadcast an investigation of an alleged pedophile ring, into which abused children were supplied by one of PIE's founders, Peter Righton, who was also a former director of education in the National Institute for Social Work.
The network was said to include senior public figures such as Lord Janner and Sir Cyril Smith, alongside a former head of MI6, Sir Peter Telford Hayman.
