I'm glad it's online, but the cost is too high, particularly from our homes & in the context of a crisis that's seeing redundancies, pay cuts, hiring freezes & the removal of conf. funding, & exposes inequalities. This is upsetting also because it was an opportunity for the BSA to show support to & solidarity with its membership & wider sociological community after a year away and in a crisis. Particularly as many of us have, and continue to, give our time & unpaid labour to make it run.
I would like to add that my comments about the fees & BSA decision are not about the conference itself, which looks great and is a wonderful opportunity for more people to get together & engage with sociology. That's also why the cost, which can be a barrier to this, is an issue.
