Chelsea have their player. Welcome Edouard Mendy!

What a journey he's had on his way to one of biggest clubs in the world.

This is his story...

Mendy was unemployed at the age of 22 and queueing up at the job centre when his contract with 4th tier Cherboug ended. https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1304425572244877314
Forced to take a year off from football, he returned to training with La Havre, where is youth career began, as an unpaid trainee.
Finally, he got a chance as the 4th choice GK for Marseille thanks to a recommendation by an ex-team mate. He played for the reserves for Marseille.
In search of first team football, he joined 2nd division Reims in 2016 as a backup GK to Johann Carasso, and went on to establish himself as their first choice GK for the 2017-18 season, when Reims gained promotion to the top tier.
Reims finished 8th in the 2018-19 season in the top tier of French football in their first season after promotion, and he was bought by Rennes for 3.5 million pounds at the start of the 2019-20 season.
At his new club Rennes, he helped them finish 3rd and gain Champions League qualification for the 2020-21 season.

Now he's on the verge of joining Chelsea, in a revolutionary transfer window, for a reported fee of £20 million.

We wish Mendy all the best! What a journey!
