One of the things that really struck me in thinking about this is that we need to retire the standard framework for thinking about climate change denial. We've trained ourselves to think the dichotomy is between people who embrace science/people who don't, but that's not adequate
Look at the reaction to the west coast fires from prominent liberals like Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Gavin Newsom. All acknowledge the scientific reality of human-made climate change. All support, or have supported polices that are making it worse.
Climate change denialism can and does take the form of outright rejection of science. But dismissing necessary measures like the Green New Deal - as Pelosi so derisively did (“The green dream or whatever they call it”) is climate change denial too.
As is usually the case, Bernie Sanders got this exactly right when he was concern trolled about how much his climate policies would cost - asking, in effect, "What's the alternative?"
