So I've fired up the laptop. I didn't want to touch it again yesterday after I made it through 21 hours of my 24-hour Twitch stream. I learned a few things about stream gimmicks, friends, and myself from the marathon stream attempt. I'll list the shortest points first.

A THREAD
1. Marathon streaming sessions aren't successful gimmicks unless you already have a regular audience of multiple users who will be actively chatting during your whole stream. Otherwise, new viewers aren't likely to stick around.

2. You find out who on Twitch cares most about you BECAUSE they pop into your stream (and maybe even fall asleep watching your stream) to keep you company and give you talking points to ramble about for a while during a marathon stream.

3. Despite your best intentions, you will probably NOT remember to tweet about your marathon stream every hour to encourage your Twitter followers to pop into your Twitch stream. If scheduling tweets, be vague. Your "schedule" will change.

4. After a certain point, especially if you take psychoactive meds, you will lose any filter you had, and you'll start talking about things you never thought you'd say in public. Be aware of this. After my husband went to bed, I don't know WHAT I said.

#Twitch #streaming
5. Find some royalty-free music made for streaming. You are going to get royally sick of hearing the background music from your favorite games in a marathon streaming session.

6. For me, 12 hours is the going to be as much of a marathon stream as I can handle. I was not built for 24-hour streaming. A lot of this has to do with my being #disabled, but maybe not all of it. Coming up: mental & physical #streaming problems.

7. Food and drink needs aren't the same when you're #streaming for more than a few hours at a time. I needed to drink a lot more, because a sore throat was my first real problem. I had to pee more often, too. Have your BRB screens set up, and you can time ads to coincide.
8. If you get too tired and need a nap during your marathon stream? Take advantage of the #Twitch watch parties feature! My chat had a great time making fun of the Dora the Explorer movie that made fun of itself while I dozed for a little while.

9. Though #fatigue was a huge issue for my marathon stream, it was #pain that did me in. Being bedbound made it more problematic for me than for others who can move around more. Leg pain was what finally made me end my stream after 21 hours instead of the full 24. #NEISvoid
10. Mental health is also an issue during a marathon #streaming session. My anxiety & depression made me desperate not to fail. Failing meant giving in and ending my stream early, which is what I ended up doing. I'm lucky my husband told me he was proud of me...
... for making it as long as I did. Honestly, anyone with CFS, fibro, multiple mental illnesses, small fiber neuropathy, IBS, and more had no business even TRYING to stream for 24 hours. EVERYTHING flared up by the time I signed off and fell asleep.

11. Inflammation increased as my stream went on. It was literally visible because of the discoid rash I get. It normally doesn't itch or anything, but it felt hot and it was burning by the time I stopped streaming. I shouldn't have ignored that.

12. Sore throat, headache, vertigo, mental fatigue, physical fatigue, nerve pain, muscle pain, joint pain, allodynia, stiffness, muscle weakness, low blood sugar, rash, dry mouth... these were all symptoms I experienced by the time I stopped streaming. Not an exhaustive list.
13. Moral of the story: Know thyself.

If you want to do a #streaming gimmick to get more followers & subscribers, the 24-hour marathon stream is not for everyone. Don't harm yourself doing something that isn't good for you.

That last sentence is good for life in general.
