Genuinely insane priorities on display, but revealing of the fact that the thing Californians really object to is the creation of new housing itself, not displacement or gentrification or any of the other usual excuses. https://twitter.com/dfdunham/status/1304492827519246336
What if I told you "converting a golf course into badly needed housing takes years of fighting through spurious litigation" was a deliberate decision we've made rather than a physical law of the universe.
Yup. And NIMBY opponents of new housing understand that even if the lawsuits are ultimately thrown out of court and have zero chance of success, they are effective because they impose huge costs on developers, both in legal fees and in the costs of delaying the project.
See if we stopped letting random wealthy busybodies block any construction project they don't like, it would lead to gentrification, that phenomenon that is famously not occurring in California currently. https://twitter.com/dhanuraashi/status/1304496082626330624
Yup. NIMBY busybodies win, the guys doing impact studies win, the rich people who'd move into new construction if it were available just displace incumbent residents instead, and those forced out's opinions don't matter anymore! Everyone wins! https://twitter.com/booklov78/status/1304496414156705793
Balboa Park is particularly egregious as a waste of valuable land and space but we should probably get rid of all of these except Torrey Pines and the northern one in Coronado (since it's on the Navy base anyway and is a flood risk) https://twitter.com/FlipperForty/status/1304514129202479105?s=19
