Speaking of correct uses of the word “diverse” in a sentence, whenever comics pubs make these pronouncements about bolstering representation in their books, I can’t help but be skeptical because no one ever wants to put in the longterm work to really sustain that energy https://twitter.com/io9/status/1304490632547905541
Kamala Khan and Miles Morales didn’t become popular characters overnight or by accident. This whole “if you build it, they will come” mentality is why a lot of newer characters of color sometimes die on the vine. If the company doesn’t love on its characters, why would readers?
Milestone’s coming back. Jazzy, love it. But what’s the longterm plan for the universe of Black capes? What effort is going to go into actually making it a place that readers new and old want to revisit beyond the initial launch? If there’s no plan, are you really trying?
Anyway, Duke Thomas and Cassandra Cain should have launch characters for Gotham Knights because the rest of the squad is way overexposed, imo. That kind of exposure is what *other* characters need more of if you want to make them pop and take off
